Lucia Quinn – Oral Health Therapist (OHT)
Lucia Quinn is an Oral Health Therapist who is passionate about helping patients understand the connection between oral health and overall health and wellbeing. She focuses on prevention, patient education, and providing personalised care to support long-term oral health outcomes.
Lucia has completed an extended scope-of-practice course, enabling her to undertake comprehensive diagnostics and management of adult patients and has worked across both the public and private dental sectors. She has extensive experience working within Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and has also provided oral health services for the community through the Awabakal Medical Service.
Lucia holds a Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH), Graduate Diploma in Dental Therapy (GDDT), and a Bachelor of Health Science (Honours). Her honours research explored the relationship between childhood obesity and dental decay. She was awarded Highest Achievement in Bachelor of Health Science Honours, published her research in the Australian Dental and Oral Health Therapists Association (ADOHTA) journal in 2018, and presented her findings at the ADOHTA NSW Conference that same year.
Lucia is currently a PhD candidate, with research focused on strengthening the role and capability of clinical educators who support dental students and new graduate dental practitioners.
In addition to her clinical work, Lucia has previously lectured at The University of Newcastle in Oral Pathology, Pharmacology, Administration of Local Anaesthetic, and Dental Radiography and Radiology. Her academic work has also included course coordination, clinical education, and program management. She has also participated in overseas student placements in Cambodia, delivering oral health services to children and young adults through a sustainable research and outreach program.
Lucia has her own provider number and utilises dental item numbers that are not covered by Medicare. HICAPS is available, allowing patients with dental cover to conveniently claim on the spot for applicable health fund rebates.
